We are local people. Jonathan has always worked on the land and with animals, Sally is an environmental officer. We have a young family and we want to feed our children a good healthy diet. We began raising animals for our own consumption and soon found a demand from friends. The business is in its infancy, but expanding rapidly. DOUBLE DELIVERY FOR FARM FAMILY
FARMER was torn between his partner and his rare pig as each was ready to give birth. Jonathan Stansfield, 33, and Sally Jones, 31, moved to Staups Lea Farm, Higher Eastwood, Todmorden, in the summer, having lived in Blackshaw Head all their lives. Cattle and free range poultry are among the animals they keep on the farm, along with free range rare breed pigs, including their Gloucester Old Spot, Rosie. Gloucester Old Spots are the oldest spotted pedigree breed in the world. When they moved to the farm Sally and Rosie were both pregnant. The two expectant mothers helped each other through the difficult months ahead. As the day drew nearer it became clear it was going to be a very close call. Speculation grew locally on who would give birth first. Jonathan was split between checking on his pig at the farm and being with Sally at the hospital in Halifax. Jonathan almost missed his baby's arrival. He got there just in time to see the birth of Lily. Rosie gave birth to seven piglets in the early hours of Thursday morning to complete a memorable day for the family. Both mums, baby and piglets are all doing well. She said: "We are all dead proud of ourselves."
