Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why did you start the business?
A: We started raising a few pigs for our own consumption (Sally was a vegetarian), but soon found family and friends asking if we could supply extra. We want our children to eat healthy, locally reared, additive free meat and have found many other people do too!
Q: Can we come and see the animals?
A: Yes, they can be seen from the road or we will be happy to take you round the farm if you ring ahead. We encourage anyone buying free range produce to ask to see the animals and their living conditions for assurance.
Q: Do you do mail order?
A: No, part of our ethos is local food for local people!
Q: What do you consider local?
A: We deliver mainly within the Todmorden and Hebden Bridge areas, however we will deliver larger orders as far as Halifax.
Q: How can we pay you?
A: By cash or cheque please. Cheques made payable to J. Stansfield.
Q: Are you organic?
A: No, but our animals are free to roam and are reared in the manner of a traditional smallholder.
Q: Where are your animals butchered?
A: To reduce food miles and stress upon the animals, they are taken to the nearest abattoir and butchered professionally.
Q: Where do your pigs come from?
A: We currently have a pair of breeding pigs, Buster and Rosie, soon to be expanded. We also buy in young rare breed piglets from time to time.
Q: Do you sell beef and lamb?
A: Not at the moment. We do have a small herd of cattle and look to expand into the supply of local beef in the future.
Q: Do you sell chicken portions?
A: Not at the moment, but our whole free range chickens are only £8.00 and easily feed a large family.
Q: Do you do large orders for parties / barbeques?
A: Yes, we have supplied produce for several large events, but please phone well in advance as stocks are limited. The various sausages, pork and apple burgers and ribs are superb for a summer barbeque party!
Q: Do you sell any other farm produce?
A: Yes, we sell hay, straw and haylage, mainly for equestrian purposes.
Q: Do you have a farm shop?
A: No, not at present, please phone or email to organise delivery or collection. We are hoping to have a stall on the Hebden Bridge farmers market in the near future.
Q: Why is some of the food delivered frozen?
A: As we are a small business, we do not always sell all the meat from a pig as it is butchered. Therefore we freeze the excess as soon as it is packaged. Most of the chickens are butchered to order. We do, however keep a small supply of frozen birds.
Q: When do I need to place my Christmas order?
A: ASAP!!!! We completely sold out last year. Please phone with your turkey order and don't forget the extras, we also supply chipolatas, bacon, sausagemeat, delicious hams and don't forget the eggs!!
